Canister vs. wet/dry filters

I keep reef tanks. but if I were to go FOWLR I would use the wet dry over the cannister because cannisters are IMO a pain to work on and clean. but even in a FOWLR if I had the equipment I would run a full sump over either option. I run wet drys on my freswater applications but IMO a sump far outperforms a wet dry due to amount of water added and options for set up for saltwater.

I agree with you...I have 2 Fluval 405, one protein skimmer and 2 M<axijet 400 on my 90 gal (LR/LS).... I cannot get my NO3 below 10/20 mg/l.... whatever I do.... and I'm extra careful.... Everybody seems very happy (fishes and polyps).... I plan to go more into corals.... Is 10/20 NO3 acceptable??

I agree with you...I have 2 Fluval 405, one protein skimmer and 2 M<axijet 400 on my 90 gal (LR/LS).... I cannot get my NO3 below 10/20 mg/l.... whatever I do.... and I'm extra careful.... Everybody seems very happy (fishes and polyps).... I plan to go more into corals.... Is 10/20 NO3 acceptable??

Appreciate it, thanks. I have a few additional rookie questions.
FOWLR - means Fish Only Water.....? Need help with that one.
I understand that I can put a wet/dry or a canister under the cabinet that my 75gal tank will sit on. My question is, being that the wet dry is more open, does it permeate the air with any odor?
Also, when I get a skimmer, can I put it in the wet dry unit as opposed to putting it directly in the tank? thank you.

no it wont if the air around it starts to stink its very dirty and you'll have worse problems than stinky air.
