Hope this helps... It's for a 90 but the same idea can be done for your 55. Is your tank drilled? This design leaves room in the upper left corner for the built in overflow.

Hey Foxthorn,
Did you do that drawing? I like the design. I noticed it looks like you're using 1x4's for the length of the frame whearas almost everyone else is using 2x4's. This will shave some weight off the stand. Will this be adequate structurally?
Maybe some structural engineers can chime in.

jagermeister - I did the model in SolidWorks.
It's all 2X4's --- all the boards are the same.
I wouldn't use anything less --- this should be more than strong enough for a 90gal.

Do you have any plans for that top canopy? If so can you send them to me? I have a 55G and the same stand as you. That canopy is great and I need one that tall for my MH's. Please help. All the tops that I have seen are to short for MH lights.
