Here are my specs: (as if these haven't been posted before)
75 gallon tank, up for 90+ days. 75 lbs live rock, about 90 lbs of live sand. Added things too quickly and had a die off. Hermit crabs and turbo snails are in the tank, have a couple feather dusters, a nice colt but no fish as of now AND a major 'pod bloom. Can't get the ammonia below .25, someone told me to stop H20 changes, turn off the skimmer and search the live rock for carcasses etc.
Stopped the skimmer about 10 days ago. Three days ago, I moved all my live rock in a search for food, dead bodies, etc. NOTHING. In fact, Hermits are eating each other and snails in an effort to get food.
When I pulled my arm out of my tank, it STUNK! like "dead" live rock. Looking upwards at the surface of the water from below, I noticed a film all across the H20 surface even though I have two powerheads breaking the surface tension.
Ammonia: .25
Aaaaaauuuuugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh! (to quote Charlie Brown)
Should I have left the skimmer off? Was this the middle of the cycle? The Ammonia never rose above .25 during the whole process. Even tried a new test kit, but it came out the same: .25. I've been posting on this subject for a while and I really appreciate everyone's help, I just can't get my tank to cycle.
Help!
