I have had brown algae growing in my tank for about 2 weeks now. Its grown all over the live rock and the glass. NItrate levels are good..I did a 10% water change and I added a phosphate filter to remove phosphates. What else can I do??

I wouldn't use any additives to take care of algae. Most times it just goes away by itself. My tank was all brown for a while so I added a tiny cleanup crew. The combination of the algae eaters and the exhausting of nutrients was enough to cause the diatoms to die off. Patience. Algae killing additives would most likely be either a waste of money or possibly harmful IMO
My best tip for a clean sand bed? Get a fighting conch. Mine has grown to twice the size I bought it in a month.

Algone has been reported to be effective...but it may not be needed in your situation. Sounds like a diatom bloom to me...has your tank recently completed a cycle? If so diatoms are normal and will gradually fade away. If it is a common diatom bloom and if your system has recently cycled...and if the water chemistry is stable then you could add a clean-up crew to assist in clearing up the diatoms.
I would hesitate to use any of the chemical quick cures personally...assorted algae/diatom blooms are verycommon and can normally be solved via means other than chemicals.

Thanks for all the replies. It is probably because of finishing a cycle. I'm going to add a few more members to my cleanup crew and try to be patient. Thanks everyone.
