:help:
I am a little perplexed. I have a 180 gallon tank that I am in the process of turning into a reef tank. I first wanted to make sure everything was running to plan. Everything is but my temperature. I have 3 - 200 watt visi-therm heaters in my 35 gallon sump. My problem is that I can not get the water in the tank above 76.8 degrees. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It could be that you water flow is to low what is the temp of the water returning to the tank? Not the water in the tank. What is your turnover rate in the sump?

I have 1 350 watt pro heat II and have no problem maintaining a 78 degree temp in my 150 reef with the house temp at 68 in the winter.

The Temp in the sump is around 84 degrees and the turn over rate is about 650-700 gallons an hour. I'm using a digital thermometer with probe that is inside tank.

Do both thermometers read the same in the same locations?
Do you have tops for the main tank?
Is there any air exchange with the water after it leaves the sump?
What kind of lighting-cooling fan?

That would be your problem your heaters are working fine it is your turn over rate you should hsve at leat 10 times per hour up to 20 times per hour 180 x 10 = 1800 gph you have less than half that. Do you have any power heads in the tank and what is the GPH on them?
