hello Again I have the hob overflow after a week of fine tuning I got it evened up and it is keeping level.
But the GUrgling noise is driving me nuts. I looked at the durso standppe not for my tank it is for dilled tanks AndI do not knwo how to make all these adjustments.
I notice the water in the back box the one with the hole that goes down to the sump is barely over the hole so I figured that is why it is gurgling someone else had to have this probelm and found a fix?
It makes you think the syphon is going to stop because it sound like it is out of water

My back box is covered with a heavy Hand Towel. Makes a world of difference.

Mine is a big 1200 gph CPR one. One. On a smaller one my idea may not work too well.

We had the same problem, even used a towel too. I still couldn't take the noise so we bought a CPR overflow box and WOW......... Not a peep.

It uses a pump rather than a U-tube to pull the water up and over. Also, you don't have to syphon it to get it started.
Changing the OB was our best way to fix the problem we also looked here to find answers thinking something was wrong.
Hopes this helps...

i put a ball valve on inline were the hose flows into my wet dry and allows you to back the water up just enough to get the air out and take the noise away, mine is quiet as can be.need a pic let me know.

That sounds really good EXCEPT that my amount of flow can change somewhat: wouldn't it be good to have some sort of emergency backup method?

my friend took the foam that the wet dry came packed with and molded it to fit in the overflow box......once he had the shape down he put it in a plastic bag and then stuffed it back into the over flow box to keep the foam out of the over flow......

You need to make or puchase a durso mod for the standpipe in your overflow box. Basically it forces the water to return below the surface of the pipe and allows you to control the amount of air that is allowed into the pipe, ending the gurgling sound. You can read all about them here. http://cart.dursostandpipes.com/come...rsus_index.asp
I would strongly advise against a CPR overflow they are a flood just waiting to happen. They cannot hold a siphon on their own without a pump so in a power failure they may come on they may not. In addition if the pump fails you are screwed, another fault is the little tiny hole that keeps the siphon is highly prone to clogging and will cause the overflow to fail. If you are getting a new overflow Lifereef makes about the best ones out there,Ive been using the same overflo for 12 years and it has never failed other than if I had both arms in the tank and pulled them out suddenly dropping the water level. Design is everything with overflows get a good one.

Ricky, bingo which in turn takes the air out,and then eliminates that gurgle sound.that gurgle is air being sucked in.the amount of turn on the ball valve is very small. i lived with that sound for 7 years and it drove me nuts.i did this and it worked like a charm.for 5 bucks try it. i think we have all wasted more than 5 dollars in this hobby.you want that water level just over that pipe as in the second pic don't raise it to much.
