my emperor has a small white fuzzy looking mass on his lower tail. I don't know what it is, does anyone have any ideas? Can't seem to get my camera to work to take small enough pics.

How long have you had this fish? Does it look like the lymphocyctis that is on the butterfly fish in the Diseased Fish Thread [top of this forum]?

had him for a week now. It looks sorta like that, not as round or fluffy as those pictures though.

That disease is not really round, or fluffy. They show up as irregular looking growths that kinda have the shape of cauliflower.

So, water quality and diet will cure this if it is this disease? I think it is lymphocytis.

amason I just had this problem with my emperor that Beth helped me through. Yes, work on water quality and a variety of foods (ie veggies & meaty) and over time you should notice it slowly going away:D

I decided to put him in qt after I noticed a few suspicious spots on his side. I keep him in there for 4 weeks right?

pretty sure it is ich. the spots just look like he lost color where they are. there were probably between 8-10 of them. How long till i should see an improvement with the way he looks and will his color dull due to the qt?

Beth- I can see two bumps on his right side, about the size of a grain of salt but they stick out a bit. These are visible when he is facing you. Is it ich or what? He's been in the qt since thurs and really haven't seen any improvement. Should i see an improvement by now??

amason, again, I'm not Beth, but will chime in...
If he has what appear to be raised grains of salt it is probably ich. If you already have him in the QT you might as well go thru with hyposalinity. It won't hurt him and if it is ich it will clear it up. You will need to lower your salinity to 14 ppt in about 48 hours and then start counting down the 4 weeks once the spots are visibly gone.
Remember, just putting him the QT will not cure him unless you either hypo or medicate.
Did you check out the threads at the top of this forum? There are pictures of ich and very good instructions on treatments. Also look at the thread in this forum regarding the Powder Blue Tang. Very good example of what ich looks like.
Good luck!

I already have him in a qt with salt where it is supposed to be. The raised spot doesn't look like the ich on the forum but it may be just that cause he has a few spots where he has lost color, could be ich spots. When should i see results is my question because if it doesn't go away i want to treat with copper.
