carbon or no carbon

id like to see what everyone thinks i dont use it but would like to stack the pros and cons see what u all think

I use carbon 24/7 and here is my reasons. One,My water smells more fresh. Two,in my mixed reef tank my corals are having a chemical warfare against one another.Carbon removes that but so does other chemical media. Here's the bad they can leak nitrate/phosphate back into the tank if its cheap carbon that does not sizzle when ran under tapwater.I replace mine every 2 weeks so this doesn't happen.
Carbon does also remove trace elements, especially iodine but I dose for that.I never seen my calcium get low though from using it.Some people run carbon 24/7,some part time and some people don't use it at all.It works for me,been doing it for too many years to stop.
Remember its a choice and subjective.

I use carbon 24/7 and haven't changed it in 2 1/2 months I guess thats not good. I never knew that you weren't suppose to run it all the time. I would like to know the real deal with it. I don't want to ruin my tank, everything has been great.
SOOO.....I run carbon, anyone want to fight over that? lol

agreed...for about a year i was rotating my carbon pads every week...my lfs sold me the tetratec filter when i first got involved and didn't know about skimmers and such...but there are two slots for carbon in the filter...i would take one out and rotate the other one to the front then put a new one in the back...now i do it less often but still try not to let the pads in tehre for toooo long...
