Carbon question

Our water is really cloudy also someone at the LFS said we didn't have to put our carbon in the bags we could put it into old stockings as long as they were clean. Was that a mistake?

Old stockings?, well that could be done as long as there are no deturgents lingering in them. I've used the nylon stocking trick to seed tanks using crushed coral in the stockings, but never with carbon. Get yourself a nylon bag made just for the carbon, its a good idea.

so we should only use carbon in the media with the bags? Or could we just take out the carbon and put it in the media tray.

I suggest that you always place carbon in the micron nylon bags. Never just dump it in the tray.

i use the nylon trick when i cant use my bags and i cant run to my lfs that has them. (2 hrs away) i have doing this trick for a really long time on my fresh water useing amo chips. and i have done it on my sw tank for carbon.

I use the nylon trick for my cannister filter
I just put the carbon in the stocking and then wash wash wash wash!
Have not had any problems so far doing it this way!
