Carbon?

Can you add too much carbon? I am fixing to add a sump/fuge and thought about adding some extra carbon in one of the compartments in the sump or in the overflow box.

Not really, you just need to change it often to keep it from releasing phosphates back into the aquarium.

No, but you could add the wrong carbon, i.e., one which contains phosphates.
I use Seachem Matrix.

A good product (I like all Sea-Chem stuff and they have great tech support), cheap carbon is worthless. Personally, I love Boyd's Chemi-Pure; a carbon based resin that does lots of stuff; it also lasts much longer than most similar products.I've used this stuff in every tank for years and love it.

Question I have a sump should I be using carbon?
Nobody HAS to use carbon....Carbon is to remove chemicals, cloudiness, etc....It is not a necessity...I use NO carbon in my 225g

you can use reactors with it as well

this is the best place for carbon. Most places people put carbon the water just goes over it/around it instead of through it.
