If you love waht you do and have a passion for it, you will be sucesfull. Not saying rich but sucesfull....

Maybe get a degree in business, get a job managing a fish store for a few years, then open one of your own after you have the contacts from your managing job....
Thats what Ide do if I already didnt have a career I loved!

I think your $14,4 is tad low, but not unreasonable. Where I work, fresh out of college employees (w/ a BS) get about 20K. A lab tech w/3-4yrs experience gets around $24-28K
Those quotes from CTM about what a zookeeper gets paid is pretty good and well above anyone in science will get, unless you have a MD.

I used to go to A&M at Galveston, I was great but I have friends who still do a lot of grunt work like sifting through mud in the bay, scraping barnacles of of fencing in the bay...all kinds of stuff and even after this training, getting B.S. degree in marine biology they expect about 24k/yr...The marine biology program at A&M is one of the best in the nation but also yeilds low salary. Did I mention the professors Are tough too, try it for a semester and if it doesnt work out, go back to texarkana...I am in missouri now and am working for a maters in Business. Good luck, It is a fun town, always something to do there, and its so easy to find friends.

I am a marine scientist (just like a marine biologist only with concentrations in geology, chemistry and physics instead of just biology) and love it....I teach at the college level, own my own Aquarium Maintenance and Design business, and in March will be off to the Coast Guard as a Marine Science Inspection Officer. Even with my degree....I have learned a lot of things through my own research... just because you a marine degree that deals with open ocean/lakes/estuaries and try to make it fly with the aquarium business..... and I learned real fast that confined water situations with fish are very different than with open water situations.....that is the only bad part with assuming a BS in a science will get you to what you love. In fact some of what I have learned I have gotten from all of the experience on this website........ But hey... I am 26, married, with a beautiful family and will soon be off to make a real difference in the Coast Guard. I wish everyone the best in their dreams........ ;)
