I had one of these little guys back when I had my 175 gallon and I loved him. Now I'm doing my research for stocking my 14 gallon nano and I thought of him again because I remembered that they stayed small. However, even though they only get 3" maximum, I keep seeing that they need 30-55 gallons at minimum. What's the reason for that? None of the sites I'm looking at give any explanation.

My guess would be mere swimming room, if they are like any of the wrasses I have had, they need room to stretch the legs, or I could be way off...btw, very cool avatar

I wondered about the swimming room idea too. I just wish I could find something concrete. I would really like to keep one in my nano because they are so beautiful and unique, but I don't want to be cruel.
And thanks for the compliment on my avatar. It's a pic of my tang from when I had my 175 gallon. I really miss that tank...

I was afraid of that. Oh well... maybe I'll get one once I convince my husband that we need a big tank again.
