Carpet Anemone

I bought a royal gamma on Sunday and he has been MIA since this morning. I just get home and see his tail sticking up in the anemonemouth. Should I keep the carpet and risk more fish getting eaten or get rid of it and get some credit at the LFS?

My advise - get rid of it. I had one fed it mussels every week and it still went after my royal gramma, luckily I saw it just as it was getting trapped and saved it.

I assure you that the carpet did not "go after" your fish..
Your fish was unlucky to get close enough to touch the carpet.I have never seen a carpet turn down any fish that touches it(other than clowns).
I have personally lost hundreds of dollars worth of fish to my two carpets.
Owning anemones comes along with a few risks..This is one...

plus it doesnt help that your royal gramma and your carpet anemone come from totally different oceans, and had never seen each other before beign introduced into your tank. what kind of llighting do you have on your 55 to support the carpet?

I have 440 VHO as lighting for the anemone....Strangest thing just happened. I came home and the carpet it floating at the top of the tank I tried to submerge him again and he just floats straight back up. Is this normal? He is not dead by anymeans, he just ate my royal gamma today. Anyone ever had this happen? Thanks

he has now attached himself to the glass at the top of the tank....all i have to say is that its really weird for him to be in one place for about 3-4 weeks and all of a sudden float to the top after eating my fish earlier today

I have to say my carpet did not "go after" my fish, bad wording on my part. My fish got stuck on it, those things are very sticky and it took quick advantage. After bedding it's foot in the sand for about a month, my carpet went floating also and then attached itself in the corner to the glass. After that and the worry over the fish we took it back. I'd also be interested to hear if people who have successfully kept a carpet have experienced this. I just figured I didn't have the right environment for it to be happy in.

Well the carpet has attached to the glass in a top corner. Woke up this morning and one of my Clarkii's has taken to it. Should I still take it back to the LFS since the clarkii has found a new home? Or just let them be. Its cool to see the clarkii take to the anemone.

I don't know. How big is your clarki? What if it got stuck on the carpet. Mr. Salty said he's lost hundreds of dollars of fish to his carpets. They sure are cool though. I guess it's up to you if you want to take the risk. I'd still like to know if that is OK with it sticking to the glass like that or if that's a sign that the environment isn't the best for it. I just don't know, maybe Mr. Salty will weigh in again on this since he has a lot of experience.

The clarkii is about 4 inches or maybe a little larger. As far as the anemone sticking to the glass i have no clue whether that is a bad sign or not. Maybe someone will come along soon and give some info on this.
