Carpet Anenome, Bad News?

I have an old rbta that is not looking too good. I was thinking about getting some kind of carpet anenome to replace it. But i have heard that they can be much more dangerous if you touch them and have a reaction? i dont have any problems with my anenome currently. Also, when anenomes die do they release any harmful toxins to the tank?

to my knowlege they release no harmful toxin.... but since they distintigrate that will produce amonia..... so inversy yes.
carpets can be bad when roaming around yoru tank. And i hope you have a lot of lighting? sory jacknjill, im not familiar with your setup.
My suggestion is; if you have a RBTA that isnt looking too well, then why would you replace it with an aneneome that is much much harder to keep? I would first identify why the RBTA isnt doing well.

well, i have a 55 reef. ive got 1 175 watt halide and 2 110 watt vho's. i have a cpr bak pak 2 skimmer, hot magnum filter, and a couple more powerheads. i have 2 tomatoe clowns that live in it.
when i bought this tank, it already had this anenome. it was doing ok, then GREAT for about 6 or 7 months. Then, for some reason, it started moving all over the tank after being in the same spot the whole time.he lived in a cave for a week or two and started bleaching. so i moved him and he continued to move all around. he stopped and has been deteriorating for a couple of months.
its base is white but its tentacles are still bright pink. it is still notas big as it used to be and the tentackes are pretty thin most of the time. i feed it twice a week. my water quality is good except for a nitrate problem.
i think my two clowns are annoying it. they will get to full speed and then dive in and almost beat it up! lol, they are just really rough with it. dont know if thats normal or not.
but i talked to my lfs, and he said that once they start to go downhill, its hard to bring them back, and so far hes definately right. so now im just looking at my options.
i want to get another anenome, because i think my clowns will be lonely without one. i like the color variety of carpets.

carpets are beautiful, but i wouldnt put something so expensive in there until you figure out the problem about why the RBTA is goign down hill.
id get your nitrates under control.

dangerous as far as what?
i know that some roam quite a bit, stinging and walking on other corals if that is what you mean.
and they are more sensitive if that is what you mean by dangerous.

oh PS, this may be the deciding factor,i just checking in thomas's post in the clownfish and anenome section and according that that, tomatos do not host carpets....

You might want to replace those vho's with another mh bulb if you are serious about keeping anemones. It is recommended that you keep 1 mh bulb per 2 feet of tank for clams and anemones.

oh, tomatoes dont host carpets? that stinks. by dangerous i mean if you get stung is there more of a chance you will have a reaction.
as far as lighting, ive never had a problem with my current corals and anenome

It is possible that you can get a reaction out of ANY anemone. Even certain corals!! It is true that MOST of the time tomatoes will not host carpets, but I have seen it. Clowns will host anything from a feather duster, to mushrooms, to LPS corals, to anemones. (obviously) Plus, carpets are MAJOR fish eaters, and they require a TON of light.

I haven't kept one but I know many people who have. They are one of the easier anemones to keep. But so are RBTA's. Before you get ANY anemone you should figure out why that one is not doing well.

for one i found keeping a carpet really easy, I have 2 150 w mh on a 125 gal, they never ate any fish i didnt want it to, i fed it a gold fish every 2 to 3 weeks though. my sebae clown loved hosting in it. I got stung from the carpet a couple times especially when i removed it from the tank. i did feel an irritation but nothing more than that. The only thing i can tell you about the carpet is it gets BIG... and when it decides to move around it can be a pita. you have to decide what you want for your tank. I want a sps dominated tank and the carpet didnt fit into the picture.
here is a pic when i still had him
