Hi, i am a sophomore in high school and i am trying to figure out what i want to do with my life. I need to figure out what job i want. I like to ocean, i like fish, i like scuba diving. I was thinking Marine Bio, but it does not pay enough. I would like a job that is at least 150k or more a year. I am free to supply more info if you need it to help me with a choice.

i think if you think marine bio doesnt pay enough then you are looking in the wrong place....marine biology pays VERY well but you have to be willing to put in the time...in the field the money comes with getting your PHD and getting out publications i have my bs in marine biology and i am working on my masters now in marine science and will get my phd in marine biology and i have already found jobs starting salary with phd of course 80-120k

also like to add...that having a career doing the thing that you love every day making 75-90k/year is a whole lot better than making 200k/ year in a job that you absolutely hate with every ounce of every day...and my advice is to do something that you will enjoy doing every day and not something that is just going to make you a lot of money you will live longer and be a much happier person

Think technical. I'm an Animator, Filmmaker, Programmer, and Web and Graphic Designer. Wonderful field.
There's a high demand for it.
If you have any questions about this direction, just ask.

Finding a good career choice sounds like a good idea but I figure I have time.. After all I've only been out of highschool for 9 years now. Of course if you find a fun job that pays 150 grand a year, let me in on the secret. I could use some coral money while I try to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.

Think sales, double major in marketing and engineering and you will make great $$ and the jobs are limitless. Catalog sales people are a dime a dozen and are paid that way but solution based sales pays a hell of a lot more and the fields you can pick from are vast.

a job that pays 150k/year for a BA or BS degree with no real time experience i dont think is out there not possible...but 150k/year is 12500k/ month which equals to 78.12/hr...2884/week...that is one heck of a job

I saw something a little frightening the other day. They had information about the average pay of people in the Physics field. What scared me is the starting pay for post-Doc physicists was only 40K/yr. That just seemed a little low for all the school they go to.

to make 6 figures these days the job is some type of elite job now....insurance, stock market, sports of course, television, medical and computers....real science jobs are under the radar and there is always negative feedback on that because people are always told there is no money in science...just have to look in the right places...but they are becoming less and less important...world revolves around a dollar bill

Medicine, Law, Engineering, Accounting, Business and sometimes sales. Of course if 150K a year is what you need to make you happy, you may want to re-evaluate your priorities because you will never have enough. Aim for what makes you happy rather than what makes you wealthy.

Im acutally currently for college for mechanical engineering, its no 150k job a year when I graduate, but its a steady job, and I get to design stuff all day, Its almost a guarenteed 55k-60k job + 10k in benifets a year right outa college, which for any grad, is a heck of a lot. 150k straight out is waaaayyyy to optimistic. might want to reconsider your goal and make them more realistic. As for a choice, I love the same things you do, but I also love to build and design stuff. If you dont mind math, science, and using programs like Pro-e and autocad, ME will be a breeze.
if you want a 150k a year, you any good at acting or have any musical talent?

It's nice to beging thinking about what you want to do but trust me there's lots of time. You'll change your mind a dozen times before now and your career. Or like many you'll come into a new hobby or experience in the future that can change your life and you may wish to pursue a career in that. Best recommendation I can give you is to keep your grades up and go to college. That will open many doors for you.

If you are into all the biology and marine world you are a 'scientific brain' more-so than a creative/musical brain.
I would go for medical of some sort. Do biology, science, etc, and go work in a lab - medical research is crazy right now.
Once you get lab time under your belt you can move on to something more like the marine world and have lab under your belt. they will pay you more.

okay thanks for all the responses.
of course i do not expect to get paid 150k right out of the university i know better than that. So i think i will keep with Marine Bio. What would be the best way to go around doing that. And what are some good college/university choices

best thing to do for colleges is 3 things; buy a college guide book that lists all univerities and majors they are best at (usually you can find them at any book store), research them online (there are plenty of statistics and other information to show where a school is in a related field), and lastly, visit that university. the 3rd is most important in the long run. I went to UF to visit the campus, and honestly, didnt meet up to my expectations, UNM had a better choice and more hands on program, better cost, and advisors actually spent time w/ me before i was even in school to help me out...so I mean, visiting a school is key when deciding.

I probably would have gone this route myself but the hours that you have to work are pretty horrible. Basically, you are at your busiest at work when EVERYONE else is off. It's really a lifestyle choice as much as a career choice.
