i know this may be a completely stupid question, but i noticed a few cat hairs im my tank today. i have one of those cat stands kind of by the tank so the cats can watch the fish swim around, and since its cat shedding season right now, i was wondering how bad it is for the tank?

don't really know, i've seen my own hair in the tank before...i've picked out the piece when i could...when i couldn't I didn't worry about it.
though if there are any chemical (flea med for ex.) i'd do a water check, and pay attention to the fish. maybe move the cat stand away from the tank little?

I find cat hairs in my tank all the time. (We have 4 <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" /> ) They love to lay on top of the tank. I have not had any problems, but our cats are never allowed outside so they have no meds on them. If you have good filteration, it should pull the hairs out.

Well, it's dog hair instead and it ends up all over everything. Anytime I have to stick my arm in the tank, I usually wash first but dog hari usually gets in. I just grab a fine net and go over the surface with it. Hasn't hurt anything yet

To keep my cat off the fish I wrapped duct tape in a circle so there was some stick side up on top of the fish tank. When he jumped up there he got duct tape on his feet. Funniest dam thing I ever seen. The big suprise scared the crap out of him. I took the tape off him and he hasn't been on the fish tank in over a year. Don't worry it didn't hurt him.
