I have two cats as well..they both only watch the tank..never try to "fish" lol I just keep the canopy closed
My fish actually come to the glass and look at the cats.. think they like to look at each other. I dont know..who knows LOL
Good luck

I have a cat who stalks the tank frequently. The only problem is that he tends to jump (claws out) at the glass, and scratches the tank border and stand. I have to constantly watch him and jump his butt when he performs his bat swoop.
:D

Three cats, they don't mind getting up on my shoulders to look around when I am looking at the tank, but other than that a look or two they are not interested in the tank either. In fact they love my empty 55 gallon tank, they stick there toys in there after fetching them. Sometimes they bring those toys on the bed at 3 am to play...

I swear one of my cats has an interal clock that goes off at 3am everynight. He comes on the bed, sometimes with toys, and does everything he can to wake us up. Somehow he knows when it's the weekend cuz on Sat & Sun it doesn't start until 7am.

My cat is always been interested in our aquarium. Watching, pawing, sleeping on it.... sometimes too interested, when he broke a power compact light that was on top.

Wow. Thanks for the replies. So I did get a kitten and have been very busy with her. She doesn't seem to care about the tank yet so I'm hoping she never will. Since she is a kitten it should be easier to control bad, but natural, behavior like that.
To Scotts: I've never seen a mini tank like that before. Is that a 10gallon? LOL.

Speaking of cats, check this out:
You know how you occasionally get emails that have been sent all around the country, funny ones, etc? Well my wife and I both got an email from a friend entitled "what cats do when your not at home"
One of the pictures was this:

...we thought that was funny but also commented that it looked alot like one of our cats, Newman!
So she went and started looking thru her old photos that she posted on an on-line gallery and she found this:
