yea....i'm cycling a 240 gal and realized i had mantis problems. found 2 shrimp on different rocks....fw dipped them and out popped a pistol in one, and a mantis in the other. put the pistol back, and let the mantis duke it out with some gorilla crabs i had in a bucket. now....i see i have another mantis. saw him last night. stuck my net in and moved the rock a bit and he crawled over to the glass. i moved the net over there and the son of a gun climbed right in. i couldn't belive how easy that was. too bad i fumbled the net on retrieval and dropped that you know what back into the blasted tank. was so disqusted i just went to bed. i still can't believe i did that......DADGUMIT!

I had a mantis comit suicide. i came home and all the rocks in the tank had colapsed so i lifted them all up and what did i find on the bottom a squished mantis shrimp i guess he punched the rocks and they collapsed on him. lol that was easy

i keep a peacock mantis in a 15 gal. glass and he has taken a super tiny chip out of the glass. they are really intelligent creatures.

How big of fish is that thing capable of attacking? I like them but hope to never have one. A friend of mine caught hers and froze it. It's still in her freezer.

i have a glass lid on my tank but he has never tried to jump out. they punch as fast as a.22 cal bullet.
all my friends say i'll come home one day and he'll be sitting on the couch watching T.V.

They sure are unique looking. It's to bad there so mean or I wouldnt mind having one.
I sure hope one dosn't come out of my LR!

Welcome to the board and congrats on your capture.
I would love to set up a small tank for a mantis one day. I am assuming that only an acrylic tank will work since too many stories I hear about a mantis snapping against a glass tank and breaking it.

Oops, didn't realize it was so old.
Glad I'm learning about them though, as I get my tank ready.
chuckcac, thanks for the pic. Why google, when you can do it for me!
J/K, thanks though. I for one think they are scarey looking. :scared:
