Caught him

Finally got my mantis. I took every rock out of the tank and was dipping them as last resort and adding them back to tank. Had 5 rocks back in tank and was getting ready to dip a few more and hang them in air for a few minutes when I noticed a dust cloud and the culprit back in the tank. He lasted out a 3 minute freshwater dip then hung over a bucket for 5 minutes and never came out. Guess he had more resolve than me but I sure am glad this is over. Now just have to figure out what to do with him.

You could put him in the classified forum there are quite a few people out there that have mantis species tanks.

I would kind of like to keep him but no fuge and frankly I don't know if I could have in same room as my show tank because if he popped I would have to wonder if it was him or another one. He is actually the second one I found but he is the one I was hunting. THe other one was tiny less than an inch. This one is a little over an inch long and much bigger around.. I think I might post him in the classified section and maybe see if I can trade him for a small frag or something. You guys have a good one.

Are you concerned that after dipping your rocks in freshwater that you may have a small cycle to contend with now?

am I worried about a mini cycle? a little bit yes but after losing 3 fish and having the rest of them ick out so bad I had to take them to the LFS for help I believe it is worth it. I have a water change ready if I need it and will be monitoring closely.

Removing Unwanted Guests:
A very effective treatment for eliminating unwanted critters in your fresh Live Rock is to dip each piece in a bucket of very saline water (SG 1.030) for a few moments. Mantis shrimp and bristle worms will quickly evacuate the rock.
few places avertise that
