My sump was "leaking" right before thanksgiving break. So I am using a power filter for now. I just got everything fixed and ready to be plugged in. Since this stuff in the refuge is dead since its been in freezing water for a week. Will starting it up again cause a cyle to the main tank.

It might if its been stagnant for almost 10days, why not do a water check for amonia on the water in your fuge to be on the safe side..

Well I ended up taking everything out to find the leak. It ended up not being a leak and I found the problem.

Any time there is dying material you have Ammonia being produced. Too much Ammonia overwhelms your current Ammonia fixing bacteria and causes anoter "cycle".
So yes, if you re-connect your refugium and it has a lot of dead material you could well have issues. Your best bet would be to get a heater and powerhead going in your sump/refugium seperately and test for a couple of weeks before reconnecting it.

personally, I would say that all you need to do is put a pump on one side, and let it pump into the intake on the other side of your sump/fuge area. I also recommend possibly putting a chromis in there to make absolutely sure that your water is cycled. Either that or just start your tank with all new fresh saltwater, and it's like doing a water change on your tank.
