Be careful what your buying these days. I've been to 5 different lfs this week all but 1 have had ich or other issues. I am guessing most get there fish from the same suppliers. This is why qt is so important!!!! Funny thing is the one place w no issue only gets limited sw fish bc of his supplier being limited. They come from Wisconsin tho, same as divers den.

Idk how you run a successful business with out running copper. I get it, not in the invert tanks but if i see it so will other people. I get you could hypo fish as you get them in qt them for weeks then sell. But we all know how things really happen.

Sometimes you can do all of those things and it's no guarantee for the success of the business.

I only get fish from one place in town because I know their quarantine process before fish go out for display.

There was another place in town that used to. But he and his wife turned out to be meth addicts and the guy got arrested for stalking and threatening to kill his wife when she took the kids and left. Was all over the news lol. Unfortunately almost everything in the store died when this happened. The city busted in to try and save the livestock. My lfs owner rescued a few fish from there and the public aquarium pitched in.

But he used to offer fish at a deal if you wanted to buy them before the quarantine process with no guarantee.

I get there are no guarantees especially w sw. However to have so many visible issues is crazy

Agree. Plus if new hobbyists have a bad experience keeping fish alive they are more likely to drop out. Less business to go around. That's why I take all of my business to the one place in town that I know does those things.

Agreed. In my area there are 4 good lfs. The one place is excellent for quality but quantity and variety sucks. The others very good variety generally good quality

It's just a given that hobbyists have to quarantine new fish. It's as important as getting the right substrate, the right lighting, etc. Maybe not as much fun, but in the long run it's a lot more fun to have healthy fish that won't contaminate your display tank with diseases.

A ***** employee doesn't have that authority without a manager's approval.

A lfs that knows you and knows you're experienced would make a deal.

The place I go is owned by a young lady that I've been going to since she opened several years ago. She puts stickies on her tanks if a fish has injuries and can't be sold until they heal. But if I wanted to try and nurse one back to health I'm sure she'd make a deal with me.

You won't get that kind of experience from the pet stores.

The one I go to has a couple QT systems. They stay there for at least two weeks (probably in copper) If you want to buy one of the fish in those systems he gives a 15% discount. I have never seen an obvious sign of disease on a fish there. They did get ich in one of their systems but took the whole system and fish hypo. Wouldn't sell any fish from there until treatment was done.

They aren't really any more expensive than the other local stores. They are specifically SW. They are also a store where the employees will tell you a fish is a bad choice for your system. Not sure if they'd refuse to sell it, I always take their advise.
