CBS, a terror?

So I read all these horror stories of coral banded shrimp, yet mine hides behind a rock all day and is the biggest chicken ever. Even when I feed him, he just barely sticks his claws out to grab food. And when he happens to be wondering around and someone walks by the tank, he zips right back behind the rock. Now how can he terrorize any fish if he hides all day?

This is exactly correct. Mine is still shy, but my buds roams the tank durring the day like everyone else in the tank is his guest, who might taste good.

I got him less than a week ago, he's about 3" (just the body). My wife calls him Shifty because he always looks like he did something bad. Yesterday even my emerald crab scared him off. Shifty was getting too close and the emerald crab started waving its claws and Shifty ran off.

They are fun to watch, I hand feed mine. They love silversides.

Really depends on the shrimp, I've had mine three years in a 33 gallon, he rules the tank at night and only comes out during the day if I'm feeding. Never managed to catch my cleaner shrimp or bothered small fish. But some ARE terrors so just keep an eye out, I love them personally.

I love mine... He's still very timid. Doesnt do much stays on the rock always. He cracks me up when he eats, or when other things come around you think I'd starved him and he's the biggest SOB.

I love mine!! He did manage to get eat my cleaner shrimp. That was a nice expensive meal that held him over for a while ;) I've had him for almost 6-7 months now.
He gets along with all of my fish - even the small ones. He even grabs hold of them to clean them and my fish love it. If he doesn't go to the fish, after a while the fish will go to him. It's really awesome to watch him. He lets me hand feed him now. He wouldn't for the longest time. At first I was afraid of his little pinchers. I thought they might hurt me. But he doesn't even try to pinch me when I have food in my hands.

I had one catch a coral catfish in mid swim (they are venomous BTW) and eat his face. I broke it up but the cat didn't make it. CBS's are as mean as they are able to be, depending on their resources.

Mine is very bold and has no fear. He goes after everything.
Two weeks ago he lost a pincher and his antenas to my niger trigger, Its all good they grew back.
Still fearless.

Mine's still hiding behind a rock during the day, other than when he comes out to eat. I think he made that his home because as soon as the lights come on, he's in that exact same spot. During the night he wonders around but I never saw him bother anything.

Here is my little guy. Actually he's at least doubled...possibly even triple the size now since the day we got him. I don't know what ya'll mean about these guys being mean. This guy is calm and collected most of the time. He does eat some snails and smaller crabs and he ate me cleaner shrimp lol - he even picked off my huge crab - but I still love him :)

Yup, mine is a terror. I haven't decided what to do with him, but I've got a couple new tanks going up soon so I'm sure there will be one, or a sump on one, where he'll fit in.

You got a baby! Wait till it gets this big, mine owns the 55g he lives in and he's not afraid to get rough if anyone gets too close. I think mine ate a cleaner but I have no proof and he currently lives with three cleaners and two peppermint shrimp. this guy is big, close to 12 in from feeler to feeler and close to 5 in across the pinchers. Just feed him regularly and he "should" leave every one else alone. mine doesn't look for fights but he ain't backing down from anyone, even me!! He looks at me like "HEY, YOU GOT ANY FOOD UP THERE?" That's a magnetic holder for a MJ 900 he is on and the MJ 900 above him just for refrence.

Here's mine. Sorry for the picture quality, he usually comes out at night.

Mine just looks small from the picture angle. He really is quite large. Overall size he is about as big, if not bigger, than my yellow tang if you are talking the tangs height vs the shrimp's width. He has a huge arm/pincher span. He is in my 75 gallon and right now, and since I have no fish in there at the moment due to an ich outbreak, he is the ruler of the tank. He roams all over the tank. He just hs this one "special" spot where he sits most of the time. But he ain't afraid to go all over. :p
