CBS NEWS - Horrible Journalism

CBS has done it again by lying saying that Bush plans to bring back the draft after he's elected. It's actually a bill that is dead in the water that was proposed by 2 democrats! Cheney called it an "urban legend". CBS doesn't want to listen.
They need to drop the "C" and just call themselves "BS".

I was interested so I checked out cbsnews.com and found your draft story and even watched the clip. CBS never claims it is coming back - they even go so far as to say early on in the clip:
"But neither President Bush, nor Sen. John Kerry has said he will re-institute the draft. In fact they both say they won't. "
You have a lot of defense analysts who say somethign must be done. You have military personnel who are forcibly kept in the service with a "stop loss" order but so far everyone is saying the same thing. No Draft. Yet 55% of high school students believe they will be drafted ....
so please do some fact checking before slamming anyone - CBS may not be your favorite (hey I no longer watch them) but outright name calling with inaccurate info is just bad .....

I am so not touching the other stuff especially the fox news dominating ....

"The war on terror will continue," says the president. "It's going to take a while and no, we don't need a draft."
But Beverly's not buying it
. She's a Republican, but also a single-issue voter.
Would she vote for a Democrat? "Absolutely," she says. "I would vote for Howdy Doody if I thought it would keep my boys home and safe.""
"Beverly is petrified about a military draft – and she's not alone. There's an undercurrent of anxiety; mass e-mails are circulating among parents worried their kids could be called up."
"She's a Bush supporter today, but if she doesn't like what she hears between now and November, she could easily cross over. "-CBS

Here's a comment on those emails which CBS does not debunk:
"Twenty-year-old Jeremy Tor, a junior at the University of Arizona, got the scare of his life recently — an e-mail that told him if George Bush is re-elected, he will reinstate the military draft."
"The e-mails also highlight two bills to reinstate the draft that are pending in the House and Senate. But both have almost no political support and both are sponsored by Democrats.
Congressman Charles Rangel, D-New York, admits he introduced his bill, in part, as a protest to the war in Iraq
."-MSNBC

Also Kerry saying that he would not instate the draft is just another flip-flop. Here is an archive from his website that was taken down
when people began protesting the war:
"As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service."-deleted archive of JohnKerry.com

It's a coverup and an old story that CBS wants to rehash but they do add the tone to incriminate Bush by their statements at the end about a woman not voting for Bush if things change.
The article is written to reflect upon the current times, incriminating the current administration.

If you REALLY
believe this, I would offer to you that you should back up your claim with proof. Call the Neal Boortz show (www.boortz.com) with your proof. He will put you on the air, so you can give the proof. He has had a long-standing challange to anyone who can prove Fox is not fair. So far, he has had no takers. So....give him a call, and back up your claim!

Watch the documentary "Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism" for all the proof you need.

Talk about taking things out of context. The national service he is talking about has nothing to do with a draft. He is encouraging "national service" as in serving the community in many ways not strictly military service.
"Americans already make an enormous difference in their communities, volunteering, in Boys and Girls Clubs or homeless shelters. Many Americans do full time service. John Kerry believes that in these times, we need to bolster these efforts with a nationwide commitment to national service. Whether it is a Summer of Service for our teenagers, helping young people serve their country in return for college, or the Older Americans in Service program, John Kerry's plan will call on every American of every age and every background to serve. John Kerry will set a goal of one million Americans a year in national service within the next decade."

You are right there. Kerry did include other forms of service as mandantory. Community service included. However the site did list military service as the highest form of service. Which I have to agree with.
However CBS (which is what this thread is about) has repeatedly put an anti-Bush spin on thier stories. Even something politically neutral like the draft they put as a dark cloud over the Bush administration.
This is a cut I took from CBS's website a couple of weeks ago. Everything political is highlighted in yellow. I just don't see them being "fair and balanced." They look for anything to make Bush look bad and the amplify and twist it to suit their political agenda. This includes accepting forged documents as literal truth and denying implicity their inaccuracy despite a flood of evidence that was presented to them.

No arguement CBS is slanted left. Fox is the network that claims to be "Fair and Balanced". I personally watch CNN. I tend to get most of my news from news.google.com. They will give you the major story and then list several different sources carrying it. You can view the same story from several different places. Read them all and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

always is, always was. My daddy taught me not to read just one newspaper. Don't get your news from one source.
I believe this site advises to get at least 10 opinions before making up your own mind.
The truth is always somewhere in the middle.
Look both left and right before you cross the street to vote.
