cc and/or ls?

I presently have a FOWLR tank with cc on the bottom and have been reading alot about ls. So my question is can I mix my exsisting cc and add ls to it? Do the fish have to be removed from the tank while this occures? I realy would prefer not to take out the cc if I dont have to but I'm concerned this may create a problem. I have a 55 gal with 45lbs of lr.

I had a cc bottom and added ls later on...I ended up losing two green chromis. It's a 135G and I had 120lbs of cc, then I just added 40lbs of ls - didnt remove any cc. By the way, It was the BioActive LS stuff (20 and 40lb bags) that you see all over the place.

I wouldn't mix sand in with your cc. The cc would keep the sand from doing it's job. A DSB works from it's density. I would do a search on the subject. This question has been asked many times so you should be able to dig something up on this site.

Did the cc wind up staying at the bottom or did you mix the 2 together? If I were to remove the cc and add the dsb would I take the fish out?
