cc or live sand base

basically it's personal preference, although i recommend a sand based substrate rather than crushed coral. or if you do use cc just use a shallow bed. the crushed coral will trap alot more debris than the regular sand will. i don't have live sand, i just have aragonite reef sand (bagged). i do have critters in it from the live rock though.

Hello,
I have a 29 gallon and have Live Rock and Live Sand and my nitrites, Nitrates and Ammonia are perfect. I believe in the live because I have a small animal living in the live sand making small holes and eating the left over waste and food.
I think you need more live rock and live sand, add a protein skimmer and a good filter with 2 or 3 good powerheads to move the water around in the tank.
Thanks,
Greg

tiffbritty,
Go for the DSB. It's probably something you would want to do in the future anyway because of the benefits. Being that you have a 125 and from all of the trouble that others on this sight have gone through converting, it's your best bet.
