CC star

I had my CC star from the beginning when I first set up my tank.
Back then It was fish only no corals. Now i started to add corals to my tank and then some one tells me CC stars are not reef safe.
My question is why are they not reef safe?
Please give me some answers I really do not want to get rid of him He has tripled in size since I got him.

Chocolate Chip Stars may eat other invertebrates, including soft corals, clams, and snails kept in the aquarium with them.

I had one for a while. It behaved itself for over a year & then suddenly developed a taste for my toadstool leather and yellow polyps. I watched one at the local DeathCo plow through some button polyps.

They are carnivorious. They will even eat a fish that was sick and died in your tank.

well of course they will eat the dead fish, snails and hermits will too its part of their clean up job, i had a serpent that would eat my dead fish bodies, but yes CC stars are not reef safe at all

Well that sucks. Now I am going to have to get him out of my tank. I do have a leather toadstool I really do not want him chomping on him maybe I will set up a nano with him in it.

if anything set up a nano reef, put the toadstool in there.
Stars are hard to keep as it is..in a nano it'd be tough...not impossible...just tough..

I do have some polyps and a red button brain also so I have 3 options
1 leave him alone
2 take him out and set up a smaller tank
3 give him away
any IDEAS

4. Leave the star and put the corals in a Nano.

One thing to keep in mine also is the CC "runs" around a lot, in a small tank he'd run out of room i think..
