Chaeto need sand when in the sump?

Does chaeto need a sand bed when its in the sump? Also, how much lighting does it need and at what wattage? thanks in advance.

You do not need sand. What I use for a light is the "energy saver" spiral 23w version of a 100w standard light bulb in the 6700 light spectrum range. Using that and a reflector w/ socket and plug in from Lowes ran me 15 bucks. The 6700 range is great for growing plants and you can find bulbs that have that on the package.
