i plan on getting this n i want to put chaeto in it so what kind of substrate does it need live sand or like miracle mud... i alrdy have a light for it but anyways guess im asking what kind of bottom do i need

I dont have sand or mud just rubble. Its really whatever you want to use. My friend used the mud and it was a nice mess for awhile, think he took it all out after 6 months and went with sand.

the cheato wont stay on the bottom, so it doesnt matter what you have in there. mine floats at the top of the water

Cheato needs to tumble it dose not root. How big of a tank are you putting that set up in. you can as a side not use that in tank refug to get new fish acclimated to there new tank mates and vise versa by putting the fish in the in tank refug if they are of the right size

wait huh what did u say u kinnda of throw me off and this would go on like a 100 gallon (side project)

so r u guys saying just put it in the tank n let it float dont try to put it in the sand... if i get some

You are going to put that in tank refug in your 100g tank am I right. If so you do not need sand the small amount you can add will do little. I also think the small amount of Cheato you can put it that refug will do little to change nitrate levels in a 100g tank

ya ur prolly right but what if i just want to throw it in the actual tank

just let it float around.
i started out with one chunk in a small tupperware from a friend.
pulled it apart a bit and threw it into the tank. it just floats around.
then it got big, and i was able to break it in half and put 1 half in my fuge and left some in the main tank too.
the junk starts growing pretty good once it gets going.
