Changing lights

I have heard that you need to change your lights out (I have VHO) about every 6 months or so because the spectrum begins to change over time. Just wondering if this is the case. Thanks:)

What is T-5?
I looked at the halogen bulbs but they put off a lot of heat and the top to my tank does not allow for much room between the top of the tank and the lights. I’m afraid that it would get way to hot and also evaporation would be a problem. I talked to one guy who uses halogen bulbs and he said that he looses about 5 gallons a week due evaporation from the heat of the lights.
:scared:

T-5s are a kind of florecent that with their paroablic reflectors can be almost as good as halides. Check out this tank, its only got a mere 2.8 wpg BUT look at the SPS and clams as well as all the other corals. HEres a pic
