I have aragonite as my substrate and I would like to change to live sand. Is this a good idea and how should I go about it?

Can I just put live sand on top of my aragonite???
Reason for change/addition: I like the look of the ls and my substrate is not deep enough

you "can" add it on top of the current shell bed I have in the past without any bad side affects.
But when you add the sand in do it at night when all of your corals are closed and it is possible that just by pouring it in that you can lose corals and fish because the water will be cloudy for 1/2 a day
