I have been changing my every other day to contol my nitrate because it is bit high and i also have a wet/dry aqautic 125. My question is " Is it OK to to turn off the return water pump when change my water from the display aquarium"..Will kill any bacteria from the bio balls if i stop the water dripping to the boi balls..

you need to find the source of your nitrates first, soe people say that bio-ball can be nitrate factories.

and others (like me) have had no nitrate issues. My balls are not submerged, and get dripped on. they sit on the eggcrate just above the water line (well, depending on evaporation the bottom ones are submerged). I asked how they could be living there (and thriving) and was told that as long as they keep getting wet they can live out of water.

maybe the original ceramic bio balls, but the new plastic ones work rather well IMO. I have yet to be able to test nitrates in my system.
