What would be a cheap effective lighting system for a 29 gal FOWLR and soon just to be a sump/fuge? By cheap I mean under $150

For a fish only with live rock 2x55 power compacts. or even 1x55 powercompact well enough light to grow coralline algae without a price tag.

What do you think about this item I found on that aution site
This is Bran New in the box.
Well folks the Jebo 24" Power Compact is now no longer made avalable! Thats right all good things must come to an end, luckly Jebo/Odyssea has impoved the Jebo 24" How you ask? Well first off they they have renamed it to the Odyssea 24"
The NEW Features of the Odyssea 24"
The housing is a sleek new fancy Black.
It now comes with 2 65W bulbs for a total of 130 Watts!
The bulbs that it comes with are 1 12k daylight bulb and 1 actinic blue bulb.
It now has 2 mini fans in it, thats right FANS!!!!!
Dont worry folks they didn't away the switches it still has 2 of them!
It comes with Legs!!! You all asked for them now they have them!!!
You know what I will even throw in the optional blue moon LEDS, there are TWO of them." They are little lights that plugs into the Power Compact and gives off a nice glow like a blue moon. They tell me it puts the fish in the mood whatever that means:)
So there is no need to buy that old jebo 24" get the new Odyssea 24" it is well worth the couple extra bucks. No need to worry I do carry the replacement bulbs for this and will for a long time.
The Dimensions are: 24" X 8" X 2 3/4"

I was looking and in the mags a 2x55 24" powercompact runs $130 and then you add shipping prices onto that.
Since your turning into a sump/fuge you could leave it on there and have a light to grow your macro algaes and such.

I was thinking I could get a glass top for my 29gal and just set it on top so when I get the 55 gal I could use the light for 1/2 of that tank. Or should I just go with a 30"?

I have no idea pensky... cuz i also have the same size tank as you... and was wondering if it is possible to use a 24" fixture with legs on a 30" long tank... without having to take it all apart and building a canopy ...
I have also seen that the jebo fixtures are a lot cheaper than other lighting fixtures... is there a reason for this?? :notsure:
wow it would be soo much cheaper to get a 24" rather than a 30"...
any input would be gladly appreciated!

There is no reason for it to be cheaper. And no a 24" wont work on 30 unfortantly when its 24" it is 24". Since he is turning his into a sump/fuge he can lay it length ways | over top the fuge part.

I use that lamp as well, bought it from the same place you're getting it I'm sure. It's nice. Heats up quite a bit compared to a regular light though! Anyway, my only complaint with it is that there's only one plug. That means you can't run it on a timer with the moonlights on at night and the regular lights on during the day. The legs don't fit on a bowfront, either. :(

Most lights arent made for bowfront tanks I was trying to come up with a design for bowfront lights but it would reguire drastic turns in the plastic legs.

If you could come up with something it'd be friggin' great. I hate not being able to use the legs. Sitting it on top of the tank is pumping a lot of heat in there, but I have no way to keep it sturdy and raise it off the top.

what would be the point in moon lights if you can only turn them on when the reqular lights are on or did I miss understand you?

There is only one plug on the light. So that means you have to manually turn them on and off. I dont have moon lights in mine yet but I plan on it and I will rewire them to a new plug when that comes along. When you have the light on the fuge remember to run it the opposite time to the aquarium light.
