Not meaning to put a damper on everyones fun, but did I actually read that you made that out of aluminum and then you put it in your tank???? Of course it changed color, its oxidizing (if it were steel it would be rust). It's alway a strong recommendation to not use anything metal (including aluminum) in such a small marine environment as an aquarium.
Very good idea though, wish I'd thought of it.

The proto was aluminum. I used aluminum because I had some on hand and it's very easy to machine. The finished piece is black nylon.
