Wow lot of responses since the last time i looked at this thread. Call me lazy, but i still havent added another lamp to it yet. Guess i should do that in the morning. Cheato still doesnt look to have grown much either. So ill stick a lamp on there and another powerhead tomorrow morning and see how it comes out. But my nitrates are down to about 15, so something is working here.....

I put a round lamp on my cheato today, and added another powerhead. When i did that, i found a bunch of live shrimp (brine or mysis, don't remember what type the lady who gave the cheato to me said they were) getting pushed out. Also noticed my pod population has skyrocketed in the past couple of days/week. They are absolutely everywhere. Im still gunna wait till i get the tank moved to my new place and set up till i get a mandarin goby though. And maybe its just me, but the cheato looks like it is growing. I wish i had a camera so i could take a pic and compare the size...

Chaeto needs high flow, though I've kept it successfully with high flow dumping on top of it.
I would not run a light on it 24/7.

Ok so about 2 months ago, i put a ziplock bag stuffed full of cheato in my sump. I have my stand light on 24/7. My nitrates are high off the charts, but thas another thread. My question is, why is it my cheato doesnt want to grow or help out with nitrate exportation? I have a quiet one 2200 moving water through my sump, and while it is probably 500 gph, its over a very wide area and you cant hardly see any cheato moving. My cheato was bright green when i got it, now its more like a brown.
You stated " i put a ziplock bag stuffed full of cheato in my sump." Did you take it out of the ziplock bag?

I fig. I will add to the cheato thread had some in my QT that I then was using as HT to copper treat Ich. Forgot to take out cheato and in 2 days the cheato dropped the copper level from .5 to .25 in 15 gal tank.
Pretty cool

Mine wasn't growing either. I was using a grow light from the depot and a 10000k light. I went to the depot and bought a compact flourecent daylight bulb and problem solved. Lights about 10000k just make the cheato get really dark green and tightly compacted. After the cheato is exposed to the daylight bulb it will need a few weeks to recover and start growing.... That was my personal experience... Here is exactly what I bought: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...77&marketID=89
