i had a filling rot out and had a root canal a year ago.
it dont hurt at all .not like when i had the two 15 yrs ago.
you feel nothing and they dont go in there and scrape out the nerve with a hand tool anymore there is a tool that sucks it out and you dont feel a thing.
then again i aint to bright .no brain no pain.

Unless you expose a nerve cracked teeth wont always hurt. Unfortunately you usually get to experience a root canal to fix the bad tooth.
Actually you can have a dead nerve. If the tooth had a large mercury filling in it, mercury expands and contracts just like in a thermometer and causes tiny fractures in the tooth, which allows the decay to get to the nerve and it eventually dies and one day you can in fact be eating jello and have your tooth shattered. If the nerve is dead it can be exposed and still not hurt but still needs a root canal.

My fiance was eating popcorn one night and had the same thing happen to him. He had to have a root canal and a gold crown.

He hasn't eaten popcorn since, and it's been over a year ago.

i have the worst luck w/ teeth. i take good care of my choppers, but sports and a bad dentist have made it a very expensive smile. i chipped 3/4's of both front teeth years ago when i ate a hand-rail while snowboarding. they broke a year later on a cinnaburst flavor-crystal. now, i have a small chip b/w both my front teeth from biting onto an olive pit from a whole foods wrap that didnt have any olives or olive products in it. i'll be getting serious dental work done next month.
i'm terrified of the dentist. a year ago i had to get my wisdom teeth out and i had to do it while i was awake! i didnt have insurance at the time and i wasnt going to pay the extra $800 for 15 minutes of sleep.
