Chiller and algae

I have been having a problem keeping my tank cool. Also I have not been adding nitrate reducer, which I may need to do.
Does anyone know if I can take an CoolWorks IceProbe
chiller, mount it on a some plexiglass or wood and turn it into my tank? I don't want to drill any holes, and I think as long as a good portion of the top is submerged, it should work. I'm just guessing. Please feel free to give any advice on this. Also if you know of any chillers that are not really high priced that work good. I live in Austin Texas and tried to keep the AC in the house at 80, but it's just not working. This morning the tank was 84.

The IceProbe can be mounted into anything that allows it to sit in water with a 1 1/4 inch hole. An Aquaclear Mini or a filter along that line works well with no media in the filter. If you try to put it directly into the tank as you seem to be suggesting above, make sure that it is secure. I had mine drilled in through the plastic on the back part of a glass cover at one point, but the weight from the probe caused the cover to shift when it was opened.
As long as you have it attached to something that won't move everytime you try to do something, it shouldn't be a problem.

have you tried fans yet?GO to home depot and get the littel clip on fan, clip it to your hood and allow it to blow over to surface layer of the water, or over the filtration, or both, either way, it should drop the tep to where you need it to be!

I do have an additional fan besides the one on my light system.
I have not been able to keep the temp down with this. Granted we do keep our ac only on 78, that would be too warm for most people.
