A drop in chiller is a chiller that has a coil that is placed into the sump right? No pumping the tank water through the chiller right?

Right. Most are for small tanks.

Well i would disagree with dogster on this because i have seen drop in for 300+ gallons the only thing is that they are usually only used for smaller tank because they are about double or tripled the price of inlines.

I agree with all. Drop-ins are less efficient than in-lines. Therefore, works best for tanks with small temperature drop.

i have a 40 gallon w/30 gallon sump thats about a total of 58 gallons of water. do you guys recomend a drop in or a inline?

Im not trying to get any one going here but I did say MOST and IMO thats true. But you can still disagree. Its cool.

An inline would be beter and a little more efficient but yes a drop in would work just fine for you.
