how often should this guy be eating? i think its thin (we just recently got it) as it just doesnt look as meaty as some other stars ive seen here.. any idea why its so red in color on top instead of the tan color ive seen...
ewwwww....My choc chip looks the same way, only I'm probably getting rid of it the nexttime I go to my NOT so lfs...don't want to take the chance of it eating my corals...so far it has not gone near them, but from what I have read...it will eventually.

yikes... ive heard the same thing. we dont have any corals in our big tank so were in good shape... do you feed yours?
No, I don't feed it...it is either on a piece of rock, or on the glass. There should be plenty for it to eat in the tank (I hope) or it will really want my corals...LOL...I figure if I ever see it go near any corals I will put it in the fuge until I can get rid of it.

sounds like a good idea lol... im sure there is plenty of "stuff" on my rocks for it to eat but wanted to substitute and make sure its getting enough "meaty" food in case there isnt enough in the tank already
i feed mine a cube of frozen food about 2X/wk. i didnt feed him for a week, and found it eating a peppermint shrimp. i was flabbergasted. the shrimp was healthy that morning and at night i found it under my choc chip. i think it had to have died before the star got to it.

Yeah, they're pretty fast, but not that fast
We feed ours 2 to 3 times a week, hes a good bit bigger than yours. He's a real treat. I know a lot of people find it gross but I find it really interesting (watching them eat).
Frankly, I've seen Choc Chips sporting quite a variety of colors at my lfs.... I personally waited until I saw the color I was after - the yellowish tan.... I've seen whitish, greyish, brown, tan and some like yours with a little red.....
