I have been thinking of adding a CC Star to my tank and was wanting some advice from someone that has had one. How hardy are thay? Will thay bother my snails or hermits? Do they need sand or are thay fine with cc?
The tank is a 25g with 10lbs of LR some snails and hermits. I have one ocellaris clown and am planning to add a six-line this weekend.

I have had my choc. chip stars for a long time now and have not had any problems with them. In my tank I have snails, hermits, shrimp, mushrooms, and feather dusters and they don't bother anything. I would say they are very hardy stars, but I think they prefer sand, but you can keep them in CC too. Just my opinion. :)

i have had my cc star for about 1.5 years and have had no probs with it eating crabs, i have had scarlett, blue, emerald, and another type of hermit. have had probs though with them eating astrea snails that can't get back up after they fall on their back, but probably because they were dead.

I know they are carnivores (and scavengers), I used to have a small one until I saw him on top of my derasa clam which was paralyzed. It did not close and the CC was killing it. It was a close call, it took the clam hours to even show signs of life...but it came back. And the CC... <img src="graemlins//evilwhorn.gif" border="0" alt="[Evil Horn]" />

I was doing some reading and my 1st post on this
topic was wrong, well not wrong just backwards
CC stars are not very fast & kinda dopic they
recommend not putting them with crabs that have
claws..SORRY IM NOT PERFECT thats why I went to
the book.
SEE YA; ;)

I had 2 ch. chips for about a year, they never bothered any inverts of mine except my sea urchin, they killed and ate it the same day i got it

I have one too, and it hasn't bothered anything except a pencil urchin I "used" to have. It took the poor bugger out. As of late though, the star has been taking to cleaning detritus and algae of the substrate (possibly easting pods too though). It goes to a dirty pad of sand with some algea on it, parks itself there for about 30 min....and walah...the sand is sparkling clean and he moves to another patch. He's currently outpacing my cucumber. It took him 8 months to develope this little habit....but i like it :D

glad to see i'm not the black sheep shive. my cc absolutely loves to get ahold of a snail or a crab.
and i have to disagree with papafish. my cc is extremely fast. i also have a red general (red knob) which moves much slower than the cc.
