Situations vary, but I have to disagree. Longevity/sucess in keeping sea stars in measured in months not weeks. They are best kept at sg closer to 1.026 and with pristine water conditions.
Listen to Ophiura..her knowledge is second to none regarding sea starts on this site.

The absolute opposite is true. Below 1.023 the animal is under significant physiological stress and likely to have a shortened life. 1.025-1.026 is very important for seastars. Mass mortalities of seastars can occur in the wild when there is heavy rainfall which lowers the specific gravity in an area.

You will be glad that you did. They don't do well with the fluctuations that occur in a new tank. You would be more sad if you got one and it died.
