Are Chocolate chip starfish bad for a reef aquarium?
He is very agressive to eat alge and other loose food on the sand.

I hate to disappoint you but everything I have read or been told says that he will eat everything on your live rock. It not only is not a good idea to have one but it is a really bad idea to have one in a reef. Maybe someone has another story to tell but I doubt it. Sorry :( :( :(

I also have read that the knobby stars are not reef safe. But I have two choco chips in my tank with LR and a couple corals and have no probs with them eating anything I don't want them to. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe it's the fact that I feed them shrimp once a week or two. Regardless of what experiences people have not everyones will be the same.

The chocolate starfish is not compadable with reef tanks. It will eat a lot of things like your polyps. Look into this site under livestock and it'll tell you.

When I had a FO tank, I put a cc star in the tank. It was great watching him cruise around the tank walls. Then he started moving directly towards a snail. My wife noticed and reminded me "didn't you read somewhere that starfish eat snails". I made a dash for one of my books, found it, assumed a cc star was no different from the rest, and moved the star away from the snails just in time (the star was within an inch away from grabbin the snail). I ended up bringing him back to the lfs, but it hurt.
sam :(

So what you are telling me a chocolate chip will attack any type of invertebrate in a tank even a snail.
