35 Gallon Hex Tank... Doing GREAT with Live Rock, Inverts, and a few fish.
Nice piece of Christmas Tree Rock a little larger than hardball size... 12 to 16 trees... (Worms/dusters)... has been looking great.
This morning over 2/3's of the rock is covered in a pure white "skin"... trees still popping in and out... all else looks fine.
stirred the water near the rock the thin covering comes right off and looks like a thin skin layer... it falls apart and makes it into the filter...
What in the heck is it... and why?
Thanks

Well, the first thing were gonna ask you is for your calcium levels..
and most likely any other params you can provide...
But specifically calcium.

CA Level is right around 450
I probably have too much live rock in the tank for its size... but I don't think that is causing my problems.
All main tank readings seem normal... ranges
Nites are at pretty close to 0 or 05
PH is 8.0 on the nose
Temp is 81 ... a little higher than I like but should not be the problem.
White covering is on nothing else... zippo.. nada...

Well it's not your calcium precipitating.
Bleached out coralline doesn't flake off...
No such thing as to much LR...
and my temps a consistant 82 so it's not the temp...
I have no idea. Let's chalk it up to detritus and not worry about it.
J/K, it's late and I'm being goofy, but really, I have no clue. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Hey, I just noticed. Your almost my neighbor!

wouldn't it be the same as most other corals that have a mucus or slime coat that is protection and is often times shed.

Seems like the slim coat might be the right call...
I have left it alone and 80% of it has either solidified on to the coral or it has disapated altogether.
Thanks for the thoughts.... everything looks good and nothing is the worse for wear.
Thanks
