chromis question

When I setup my 180g at the end of the year I had planned on getting a school of chromis. Can I mix blue reef chromies with green chromies to make the school (i.e. 3green, 2blue) and will they stay a school or go their separate ways?

I am from a school that think w/o predators, the strong chromis will pick on the weak.
I attempted a school of 6 chromis twice. Each time, I am left with just a pair after a month. Then, just one chromis after a few months.

I've heard odd ###'s are better. Not sure about green and blue together. I'd probably stick with on kind to be safe even though they they are inexpensive enough to experiment. - I just bought 3.. am hoping they do well. They are schooling but remain hiding for now.

I started out with 5 and lost 1 on the second day. I now have had 4 greens for about a month now. I would say that it has to do with the other fish in your tank. my velvet damsel keeps them all in check, so they really dont fight amongst themselves.

i started out with 5 green reef chromis in my 150g. i think by the second week it was down to 3. i have hadthem for about 3 months now. at first they really didnt school that much, but once you start to add bigger and aggressive fish they start to school. i have herd its common for the chromis to pick on the smaller weaker ones. with a 180 gallon id start out with 7 or 5 of them, b.c its likely you will be minus 2 chromis or so in weeks time.

I would try 15 or 20. You will have a better chance of them schooling, and less fighting.

I currently have 3 in my 50 and love em. They always hang around together. In the past I have had them pick eachother off until I was down to 1 but so far so good. With a 180 I would go for 5 just because 5 is cooler than 3. As far as the Blue Chromis go, I've been told that their success rate isnt the best as they come from colder waters. I don't know if there is any validity to that though.
Good Luck!!

I have had 6 in my 125 for about 6 months. Started with 8, but 2 died w/in a week. Since then, they all school a good bit and my 2 clowns will sometimes school with them. The biggest one clears out his spot when it's time to eat, but other than that, they get along fairly well. They do like to eat more than once a day though and are more peaceful since I started feeding them more often.
