If you want the research papers I can find them for you.
no thanks, I'll trust you on that. simply saying that at 13, God was so not our primary focus. Maybe it is to those who take CCD since they don't get religion 5 days a weeks (class m-th, church friday, and for some also Sunday. It was something we took for granted. Then again, at 13, we didn't talk about stuff like what we beleived in, so who knows.
Hmm went to Cahtolic schools and they taught evolution....
Ditto here, but it was taught in science/bio class NOT religion class.
I was a straight A student except for religion.
I was a straight A student ONLY in religion. :notsure: untill one year my mom got upset I had an A in religion yet a D in French, so I got a B in Religion, and damn that was hard to do.
I couldn't make myself put answers on a test that they wanted to hear, but I didn't necessarily believe. I never had to do this. Our test were memorizing the prayers, beaitutes, sacerments and such and of course there were tests on the text book. But never was I asked what I beleived in.
My classmate didn't have to take a test or do anything (well, we all had to attend two retreats that year). I always thought CCD was just to teach the public school kids the facts and stuff about the religion (you know, the stuff you don't really get in church).
because my parents are making me
I'm sorry, but this is the WRONG answer. Though I understand, as I've met parents like them. Have you tried to explain to them, that by confirming you believe in what you don't believe you are lying to the church members and others? In other words, it's just a show, an outward form, if you will. To me, it sounds like your parents don't care about what you believe in. while I understand them not taking a kid (you are a kid right? 13ish?) seriously, it doesn't mean the should force you do be a religion you don't want to be. (this would lead me to my issue with baptism as a baby...)
I still don't understand why it bothers you? If you don't believe, don't confirm! You can always confirm later if that's what you want. Stand up for what you believe it (that's what Jesus did! Of course in real life, we often have to do things just to make our parents happy and to keep the peace.
study it as a subject that you don't necessarily believe in.
This is what got me through 10 years of religion classes.
i'm not alone!
No, you're not. Your parents can't make you believe, they shouldn't be forcing you to confirm something you don't believe in.
I think there has to be a solid reason for it then.. can't just say that's what happens when you get a porblem like that i want an in depth reason
sounds like me with math... I always asked why....
