cingular is really screwing us over right now. i guess 8 years means nothing huh?
I want to switch providers but cingular has a 175 dollar cancellation fee per line. Is there a way around this?

nope unless your contract is up there is absolutely no way around it. thats part of the reason I am with alltel. I had a phone stolen went to cancel it and they still wanted to charge me the cancelation fee for the line. needless to say when my contract was up it was time to switch

not unless you outlive your contract. If you renewed or got a new phone within last 2 years then nope, your screwed.

why are they ripping you off??? Just courious. The family plan allows up to 5 phones and they have everything under the sun. A friend of ours had Sprint and would never go back. We looked into Tmobile and they didn't have near what Cingualr/ATT had. Also looked into US Cellular and they are barely on the map.

Hubby used Cingular. Dropped AT LEAST 12 calls a day!! Bad for business!! No signal right here in the house and there are 2 towers within 10 miles!!
Switched to Verizon... MUCH better!

I can see if the coverage area is bad, but he stated they were ripping him off.
They are ALL rip offs. I can't stand looking at the bill. taxes, fees, taxes ON the taxes etc.

look at the time of your contract. If you're going to pay more than 175 throughout the rest of the contract, cancel it and cut your losses. If you only have a few months left, it isn't worth it.
but it should come as no surprise--every commercial and contract tells you there's an early cancellation fee.

I actually have a contract with Verzion and one with Us cellular, and I think Us Cellular has a far better plan than Verzion, but you do have to be in there calling area.. like with uscellular we have free incomming calls and free minutes at 7... Verzion's free minutes don't start till 9 and no free incomming calls.. I cant wait till my contract is up with verzion..

I have Cingular and I drop about 15 calls a day, crappy service in my office building (in the middle of town), really crappy service that fluctuates while I am at the house. Only $175 to cancel service, I have about 1.5 years left in my contract.. Do you get to keep your number if you cancel your service?

Cingular is the biggest rip off there is, next to Comcast of course. LOL
I refused to get a contract with Cingular, instead I paid the full price for their crappy phone. A few months later their phone broke, and my calls dropped so many times that there were as many repeat dials for dropped connections as there were original phone calls! I cancelled. Did Cingualar then attempt to charge me for early cancellation for their cheesy service? Yes, they tried, but failed. Keep your contract and paperwork in a vault. You'll need it to prove that your contract is up and you owe them nada once you do finally get the chance to escape.
I'm convinced they use only one satellite that circles the moon once a day.
Wait until your contract is up and then run to Alltel.

No kidding. I hate comcast.
I have sprint and am very pleased. Out of the blue the other week I called to see if I earned any money towards a new phone. I would never have known had I not called but they gave me $150 towards a new phone and sent me two $70 debit cards that I can use for anything, one for each line.

IMO, it all depends where you live. All carriers have better areas than others. For years Sprint was the only thing that worked decently in the Keys and you couldnt pay me to have them here in Clearwater. I have had Cingular for years and I love 'em.
I buy all of my phones from the big auction site. Also, I never carry insurance on my phones either. Insurance is $5 a month and a claim on a lost or broken phone is $50 for the deductible. So.... if you break a phone after 12 months you are paying $110 for a new.... well refurbished phone.

I believe it depends how you go about it. If you just call Cingular and cancel you will lose it. You should be able to go to your future carrier and have them initiate it and they should be able to port it over to your new service.
