Circulation Pump

I just installed a new Circulation pump, I'm having a problem with it sticking to the glass of the tank.
It will stay on the glass for about a day or so and then i find it floating in the tank. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Make sure the glass where you adhere the suction cups is very clean. Maybe scrape with a razor blade (assuming it is a glass tank don't scrape if it is acrylic).

Are the suction cups on the pump still flexible, or are they stiff? If still flexible, make sure there isn't anything on them to cause them to lose suction. A little coralline algae will prevent them from sticking. If you can't get them to stick, you may get lucky and find compatible suction cups to replace them. I've heard of magnet kits for power heads with suction cups, but can't remember who sells them. Sorry...

Hi,

If your power head has those three little cups, the vibration is what is making it not stay put, I don't care how smooth, or new the suction cups are. Now the one with the one big suction cup, with a clip is much better, and that one has to have a good smooth surface to make sure it makes good contact and then it will stay....When they came out with magnets to hold the power heads in place, I actually did a little gig.

You might try tying the power head in place, that's what I did until they came out with the better ones....from now on, make sure any PHs you purchase has magnets, or the one big suction cup with a clip.

When I first bought my regular power heads they had the big suction cup but I didn't realize they had the clip. They wouldn't stay put. Once I figured out the clip was there and used it they never fell.

LOL...I may be showing my age, but I thought of magnets before they came on the market for power heads. In fact the LFS told me if I ever figure out how to do it, to patant it, he was sure it would sell...LOL
