Clam and Scallop Help

I can't find much info about Clams or scallops but I've had both a flame scallop and a blue clam (I forget it's long name). I had them at different tie but with much the same results...death. I had each for several 4-5 months and they seemed to be doing well and just one day I'd look and they be dead. What am I doing wrong here? How long do they live? Each time I'd have the water tested at my LFS and nothing abnormal comes up. Any advice? (On a differnt subjuct, what does RO water stand for?)
Thanks in advance,
Mike

RO water stands for Reverse osmosis. If your not using it you should start. I don't know much about clams but the flame scallops need regular feedings with phytoplankton. The clams need very strong lights T-5's or Metal Halides and phytoplankton as well.

Flame Scallops belong and are on the "DO NOT BUY" list due to thier poor survival rate in captivity, they usually die of starvation and due to the fact they need to contantly feed and have specialized diets that cannot be reproduced in captivity, Success with these scallops need to be measured in years and not months,, im not sure about their normal life spans though..

It's definetly frustrating. I,too, bought a flame scallop that did great for about 5-6 months and then went downhill fast (couple days) before dying. Unfortunately, I bought it because it was $5 and the lfs said it was easy to keep. Later, I read online that they are very difficult to keep also. Shame...they are so cool!!!

I agree with above post that states Flame Scallops should be on a do not purchase list. The LFS has been honest enough to tell me that they don't last well in his tanks, people who buy them always say they were doing great then died, and every author I have read says they are better left in the seas they come from. As far as clams I have had 2 Crocea's for a little over a month now. They open and react best for me placed at bottom of tank in sand leaned against LR. Under 250 watt MH and VHO's their color seems best deeper in tank than up top.
