Blue light doesn't penetrate at all, that was the flaw in his argument. Light coming from the sun is white and contains all colors of the spectrum. Blue light is reached by either compressing the white light so that it is pushed to the blue end of the spectrum or stretching it so that it is in the red area of the spectrum; astronomers use this concept to judge how far away stars are. If the star is more red, it is further away because the light has become stretched over time/space; this is the Doppler effect (1). The white light from the sun is being affected so that it appears blue by some mechanism. There may be multiple reasons for this and they may all occur naturally, but the basic idea is that it is not blue light from the sun, otherwise the sun would be blue. That's what I gathered from him, which, as you said, is nonsense.
