The other day I got a crocea clam. I placed it up a bout midway on a flat rock, a few minutes later it hopped off. So i put it back up there.Well, it keeps hopping off the rock. No matter where I put it. Since I didnt want to stress it too much, I placed it in the sand, where it could get lotsa light, but not a tremendouse amount of flow. So now it keeps lying on its side?????? What should I do? Put on a rock untill I find a place it wont hop from? Leave it in the sand? It doesnt really even try to dig in or anything. Move it aound in the sand till i find a place it likes and then try the rocks?
Please help I have no idea what to do with him. Is this normal to lay on it's side? I doesnt look like it.

i keep all my clams on the sand bed easier for placement usually i just kinda burrow them in then within a week they attach to the bottom and good from then on out....
as long as u have good light and water it will be fine

i believe that crocea are naturally rock burrowing clams. if you have mh and enough wattage to reach the bottom then maybe place him on a sand bed or a flat lr. but if not, id definitely try to wedge him in somewhere higher

my crocea has been on the sand bed for like 3+ months. i put him on the rock as you did, and he kept hopping off. jsut leave him on the sand and he will situate himself, dont keep moving him trying to keep him straight or anything. mine burrowed himself into the sand so about 1/4" of his shell is above the sand, the rest is buried.

try putting a piece of LR or a clam shell under him so his foot can grab on. he may not be able to hold himself up because his foot cant grab hold of the sand.

I agree with "TEEN". IME, croceas seem to like sand over bare rock when putting down their foot to attach. However, I like my clams on my rocks. So, what have worked for me several times is to pile up some sand on a flat part of my rocks (or as teen says, in an old clam shell) and then put the clam in the sand pile on the rocks. Within a day or two the clam will put down its foot on the rock to stabilize itself. After about a week, you can blow the sand off the rock, and presto, the clam is attached to the rock. Let me know if this works for you...
