clam on the move again.

One of my crocea clam has its foot stuck to my top lr for 6 months. i had this rock adjusted so i could see this clam in good view. few months ago it moved (turned) a bit and i somehow turned it back without hurting it, so i could view it. today after work, this clam has turned itself about 45 degree more and has its foot stick onto another spot on the lr, about 1cm away from original spot. and the old spot where it had its foot on the last 6 months is sort of whitish. anyway, so i tried again to turn it back, so i can see its full view, but it's so "tight" that i decided not to proceed and hurt it. the lr is not movable enough to change the viewing angle. so now there isn't much top view of the clam, just its shells. any suggestion please?

my duresa is movin all over my tank too. ive only had him for about 3 weeks and hes moved all over the place i just let him go i guess. let him find a comfortable spot. i placed him in the sand so he wouldnt fall off the rock.dont know if this helps any but.....

Clams will move in search of the right spot as far as light and current, which my not always suit the hobbyits veiwing satifaction. The worst this you can do is to keep moving it, this will stress the clam and may eventually lead to its death. Croceas are the most light demanding of all the clams, and usually do not last long under anything but MH. Ca and alkalinty are also very important for all clams. Has the current in the tank changed lately? Is there anything bothering the clam, coming in contact with the mantel opr shanding the clam from above? Are you light bulbs to to be replaced, they may have lost intensity and cause the clam to move in search of brighter light. You may also want to check you water quality. HTH

Adrian, water quality are on the right track, light bulbs are all new. however, yes i recently (3wks ago) put a powerhead in tank to create surface agitation, that may be creating some waves towards this clam. thanks for reply, i know it's not good to move clams. will keep eyes on and see what happen. thanks again.

ive got another question on the same subject. as my duresa(sp?) grows will he be more tollerant of the current in the tank ? or maybe better asked, can larger clams handel the current better without moving around all the time ?

Derasa Thats a tough question to answer, Im really not sure, I would think as a clam gets larger it can tolerate a stronger current, but in general clams dont like an excessive current in the first place. After viewing your page I would have to point to lighting as the reason you clam is moving around a lot. Derasas are pretty light tolerant, but with your lights you may be pushing it a little, of course the clam may jsut be looking for the right spot HTH
